For immediate release Chairman Bucky Rizzo – (205) 602-6881 Nov. 17, 2008 The Walker County Political Accountability Coalition is saddened, but not surprised, to learn that many of the bingo gambling halls in Walker County thought so little of their patrons that they didn’t bother to follow guidelines nor install proper sprinkler systems. According to press reports, they also did not use professional engineers and architects during the construction or renovation of these facilities. With the number of people coming to these casinos, we have been blessed that a fire has not broken out in one of them, because it now appears it would have been tragic. Some of the casinos have even opted to stay open despite orders from the fire marshal, which shows the audacity and lack of concern these facilities continue to have for the people of Walker County. Again, we are not surprised, as some of these facilities in the county appeared active in helping to write the rules. We continue to believe the best course of action is to close all of these facilities, as this revelation will probably be only the tip of the iceberg. We continue to believe these bingo gambling halls are illegal and pose a threat to our county.

(Copy from advertisement) Cindy Hayes can’t sleep because of bingo…and the Walker County Commission. Cindy Hayes of Filter Plant Road, along with other members of her family, cannot sleep at night because of the noise and lights that come across the street from a electronic bingo hall running night and day. Players have driven into her yard and made complete circles. She has repeatedly been complaining at Walker County Commission meetings because the commission has done nothing in two years to follow Jasper’s lead in stopping electronic bingo. Moreover, without zoning laws or more stringent bingo rules, the bingo halls can go almost anywhere outside of Jasper, including across the street from her residential neighborhood. "We have a casino gambling parlor across the road and partying all night long. It's a nightmare. Once again, I want to say how crazy this is and what is being allowed in our county is insane. It's gambling, anyway you look at it," Hayes told the commission recently. Commissioners Bruce Hamrick and Dual Tubbs sat back for months without making a motion against bingo, and then finally voted not to ban bingo but to approve rules for it. The county bingo amendment says the county governing body “may promulgate rules and regulations for issuing permits or licenses, and for operating bingo games within its respective jurisdiction.” Jerry Bishop (as chairman) and Larry Cain (as District 1 commissioner) won’t hesitate to push for electronic bingo to be banned from the county – because next time, the bingo hall could be across the street from you. Vote for Jerry Bishop as commission chairman and Larry Cain as District 1 commissioner on Nov. 4. (Paid for by the Walker County Political Accountability Coalition, P.O.
